    The Addict’s Choices Part 2

pg 154

All things that sparkle are not gold. Again, we are dealing with a poor substitute for the real thing. God offers a truly balanced, fulfilling, and rewarding life. It’s not an easy one—don’t get me wrong. But His gold is true gold; His truth is real truth. What kinds of faith adventures have brought you nothing more than an illusion of light and a fleeting fancy of joy? When have you most sought something that lasts? Where have you found it?

pg 305

One day around 5:00 p.m., I came home and threw myself into my half-dead day bed, and my sister came in and yelled something at me. The only words that actually made it through my drunken stupor were these, “You think you might be an alcoholic?!”
That did it! I was mad and still stubborn enough to try to prove her wrong, so I quit drinking.
